It is finally time for our August Vacation! We have been waiting forever for this vacation, or so it seems. We almost didn’t get to take this trip as Clay had a manager’s meeting to go to the week before. But we managed to swing it and here we are in gorgeous Hilton Head. We have not been here when there have been leaves on the trees so this is a treat to see what it looks like in the summer. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and boy was it ever hot! It was so hot outside that even just bike riding left you wet with sweat.
As usual, after arrival, they take you around the resort and show you which sites are available and let you pick one out. We chose one that we had stayed in before on the "water" front. It is actually a pond with 2 fountains, but what the heck, we can pretend can’t we?
After getting set up, I noticed this creature flying around and walked around the back of the motorhome and there he was! I have not a clue as to what he is but I think he was looking for some lunch!
There really isn’t a lot of people here this week. As people own these lots and the office can rent them out when they are not in use, we were kind of surprised that it was so empty here. This is our site. It is Site 335.
We are only about less than a mile from the beach. This resort is not ocean front but is very close. The only way to get there as far as we are concerned is to ride our bikes. There are fantastic bike trails throughout this whole island. We are riding our bikes to our hearts content this week! It is so much fun!
Our Lunch on Thursday!
On Thursday, we decided to do something a little different for lunch. We decided that we wanted to go out and eat lunch today. We ate a very light breakfast and after a couple of bike rides and a little of research on the internet, I found this place. I started by searching Rachael Ray’s $40 a day. She had been to a restaurant called The Sea Shack here in Hilton Head sometime in the past. But apparently, the head chef "David" left after she had visited the Sea Shack and opened his own restaurant. It is called Roastfish and Cornbread. The name alone is enough to make you want to go and see what it is all about.
As it happened, I had plugged the address into our Garmin and in it’s infinite wisdom or ignorance, as it sometimes does, it took us in the wrong direction to the wrong end of the island and then the battery promptly died! Oh noes! And on top of that, we had to pay a $5 entrance fee to the Plantation that the Garmin thought this restaurant was on! But wait, I have the new Droid X! I have my own GPS. So I plugged the address into the Droid and off we went. We were both dying of hunger by this time but we just had to find this place! We finally find it and wow! That is all I can say! The restaurant was set back a little ways off of the road and we would have never found it if it hadn’t been for the Droid! There were tall old Oak Trees draped with moss all around the place. There is outdoor dining for the times when the weather is a little more conducive. As you walk in the door, you are greeted with the 2 boards of the specials and the menu. We were seated quickly and soon decided what we were going to have. We both decided on the sandwich platter which came with 2 sides. I ordered the Sweet Potato Cornbread and Clay ordered the Coleslaw. We were going to share the sides. As my main entree, I ordered the Shrimp Burger and Clay got the Fish Taco. All I can say is another wow! The Shrimp Burger was huge and Clay’s taco was made with a homemade tortilla. The Sweet Potato Cornbread was covered with a homemade honey sauce that was to die for. We had that for our dessert! What a meal!
